We did start with Linux some years ago. Now its better than other OS. So what distribution do You like? We started with 20 Live CDs and we did try them on all computers. And at the end we did learn a lot about SuSe or Fedora or Shell. So what Linux is the best for beginners? We prefer Xubuntu. Its better than Lubuntu or Ubuntu oder Kubuntu. And we found out the best live CD is Slitaz. So what Linux do You recommend for old Laptop?

Ubuntu is good for beginners.

I would recommend Linux Mint. It's very easy to use and it is based on Ubuntu. For advanced users i would recommend Linux Mint Debian Edition, based on Debian. It is also very easy to use, but a little bit complicated to install.

Linux Lite is a lightweight Linux distribution that does not require high-performance hardware. Even a novice can easily use it on older computers.
